Capitalism and Gender - a sordid history

Date
Tue 24.09.19
Timings
5:30pm – 7pm

There’s nothing natural about gender. Throughout history, gender has been fashioned and refashioned by social, political and economic circumstances.

How did colonialism form a western ideal of white womanhood - premised on the violent exclusion of black and brown people? How did the gender binary come into existence - and why is this relevant for trans liberation today? What would it mean to “end gender” and, as anticapitalists, should we be aiming to do so?

This session will be an interactive timelining activity aimed at anyone who wants to learn about the histories of gender and capitalism.
