On strike because we care: the fight for childcare

Date
Sat 21.09.19
Timings
3pm – 4:30pm

At the 2019 Women’s Strike over 500 parents, grandparents and carers attended free stay-and-play sessions across London, to make visible the unpaid, undervalued care work that props up our economy. One of the reasons that so many parents - mostly mothers - went on strike is that Britain’s childcare services have been the victims of neoliberalism.

In this workshop we will discuss how we can strike from the work of care - when we are paid workers and when we are not. We will continue to build a feminist political and industrial strategy for the care of children and labour rights of childcare workers.

Organisers

The Women’s Strike is about refusing all the work that women do – whether paid work in offices and factories, or unpaid domestic work in homes, communities and bedrooms.
