This session will be a workshop running through some of the history and current practice of rent strikes with a focus on providing the knowledge needed for people to get one running themselves. It's focused primarily on a university context, drawing from the experience of those involved in the University of Manchester Rent Strike campaign which is now running into this academic year. We'll draw upon strategies and perspectives related to broader cost of living campaigns, focusing on university rent-related issues as part of a wider-ranging struggle against financialisation and the profit motive. This will be a participatory workshop to allow us to integrate new perspectives, concerns and ideas for different forms of direct action into the national struggle.
