British politics are on the move. Since the last TWT event in 2023, we have lived through seismic shifts in British and global politics.

The future is not inevitable, nor is it out of our hands.
Sometimes history needs a push.

Pan-Africanism: the 1945 Congress and the future

Spread across venues in Hulme, Manchester, TWT25 will provide a core programme of talks, workshops and training on key areas, from workplace militancy to Palestine and anti-imperialism, from tenant organising to resisting fascism. And you may have heard there’s a new left party in the works - we should probably talk about that, shouldn’t we?

TWT25 will kick off with an Opening Ceremony at the Niamos Radical Arts Centre on Thursday, and go all the way through to our closing event on Sunday night.

For all things TWT25

Check our social media for some initial announcements. Most of the Programme will be online on this site by mid-September.

TWT's programme is a combined effort of dozens of organisations and individuals. It takes a long time to put together. Follow us on socials for announcements.

Yes - there's free childcare and a programme of activities for kids 3 and up, between 10am and 4pm. You can read more about it (opens in a new tab)here.

You can view the TWT25 Access Pack (opens in a new tab)here.

We are working to try and make all the venues as accessible as possible, and to make sure we communicate everything clearly in advance.

Pretty much. There are usually a small number of sessions we have to ticket in addition to the TWT25 wristband, because they’re either super popular or we need to raise extra funds to cover their costs. For these events you’ll need both the wristband and the additional ticket. These additional tickets will be available nearer the time, and advertised on this site.

In Hulme, south of Manchester city centre. We’re in an amazing collection of venues, all within short walking distance. Niamos Radical Arts Centre and the Hulme Community Garden Centre will be the hubs - and where you’ll find the box office.

If we succeed in securing some cheap community halls accommodation, we’ll put it on sale immediately. This is usually a basic offering including a campbed in a big hall. If you’re a Manchester local and know a venue that could support this kind of thing, please email [email protected]

Please do! Our volunteers are the life and soul of the festival - and they’re often the ones having the best time. Sign ups are still open (opens in a new tab)here - but apply ASAP because they’ll close in September.

We haven’t finalised our video plans yet - usually we try to film some sessions and get them on YouTube. Hopefully we can at least do that again - but maybe something more ambitious. We don’t have a studio for live streaming yet.

You can be very confident the new party will be a topic of much heated debate at TWT25, and there will be sessions dedicated to discussing it with many of the individuals you’d expect - but we’re an independent project, and we can’t wait to get into it with you over a cup of tea / crisp pint in the Garden Centre!

TWT relies on an amazing network of supporters - ordinary people who donate a few quid each month. Without them, TWT would simply be impossible. You can join them (opens in a new tab)here!

The festival is supported by organisations from a very broad spread of the left, who contribute in various ways - Trade Unions, movement groups, tenants organisations, community campaigns. Some give us money, some provide logistical support, some just share our social media posts. Our income is roughly 50% ticket sales, and 50% partners. The partner organisations for this year’s event will be listed at the bottom of this page - just as soon as we get their logos and add them.

If you can’t afford a ticket, just email [email protected] with your name and ‘free ticket’ in the subject header, and we’ll sort one out for you, no questions asked.

This year we’re scaling up our delegations. Some organisations that partner with TWT buy delegate tickets for a selection of their members, who then come to TWT and represent that organisation. These delegates get access to special networking events and other perks. Why do we want delegates? Because we believe effective coordination requires us to build strong organisations that work together, and we want to encourage that by making sure people engaging in organised political activity are front and centre.
If you work for an organisation that would like to send a delegation to TWT25, or you’re a member of an organisation - for example a local Trade Union branch - and you want to know how to become a delegate, email [email protected]

Unfortunately the open submissions window has now closed. We received a lot of submissions, and the programme team is working through them.

If you submitted a proposal and haven't heard back from us by w/c 18th August, please assume that this means we're not able to take forward your proposal this year. We will try to get back to everyone, but due to capacity we are sometimes a little slow on this, and inevitably we drop the ball sometimes. Thanks in advance for your understanding.

The World Transformed has never been officially connected with the Labour Party. It made sense under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership to try and influence the party with exciting, innovative and radical politics - all grounded in lessons from present and historical struggles, and always with a practical, pluralist and pragmatic take on socialist strategy, which refused to neglect the massive role of arts and culture in shaping our movements. Under Starmer our function changed to something more antagonistic: to keep demonstrating the vitality and viability of left alternatives, on the doorstep of the Labour Right. With Starmer’s support for the genocide in Gaza, the cementing of Labour’s doomed strategy via their paper thin election victory, and the growing energy around alternative left organisations, we took a year out and reorganised. That’s why 2025 is the first year TWT will be a totally stand alone event - come and be part of it!

Location

TWT25 Venues

Location of the Box Office and our book shop and little café too. The Niamos Radical Arts Centre is an institution. Fele Kuti & Nina Simone played here back in the day.

For nearly three years in the late 80s, the Ascension provided sancturay to Viraj Mendis, who was under threat of deportaiton from the Home Office. See if you can spot the photo of Jeremy Corbyn in an exhibition about the campaign. For us - it's key space and will host our Assemblies.

A small space in the Ascension Church, next door to the main venue.

A perfect black box space, part of the amazing Homes for Change housing co-op built in the 90s.

Not to be confused with the student accommodation of the same name - this is a workhorse venue run by Mothers Against Violence. Search for MAV Hulme Hall to find it in google.

Head over the famous Joy Divison footbridge from the Garden Centre to get there. The tenants of the area demanded the Aquarius be built during the 90s redevelopment of the area. It's now a hub of vibrant local activity. Bingo anyone!?

The biggest space in the Windrush, find it in the back right corner of the carpark when you enter through the main gates.

In the groundfloor of the main Windrush building - head through the corridor on the right after reception.

Upstairs in the main Windrush building - there's a lift too.

Small, cosy, perfect for small workshops, intimate arts stuff and conspiracies.

A tiny but gorgeous poly tunnel for small workshops and chats.
