Dele Sosimi, the Nigerian-British Afrobeat musician has been at the heart of the global Afrobeat scene since relocating to Britain in December 1995, having started his musical career with Fela Kuti's Egypt 80 band in his teens. His music remains imbued with his politics, the sound of resistance carrying forward Fela’s message against the “colonial mentality” into our own turbulent times. We are thrilled that Dele will be joining us this year, with his full afrobeat orchestra, and making his debut at the Niamos: the same stage that Fela himself performed in the early 1990s.
This is a co-production with Community Manchester, and Dele will be supported by DJ legend on the Manchester scene, Irfan Rainy.
