How do we move from mobilising to organising?
In this session we’ll think about how to build the skills, experience and infrastructure necessary to really organise for long-term change, and the difference between organising events and organising people.
We’ll hear examples of social movements that have transitioned successfully from emergency responses to long-term organising, and find out how base-building relates to these concepts.
Jack is a member of Workers for a Free Palestine and an organiser in the trade union and Cuba Solidarity movements. He is a PhD candidate in Political Theory where he studies democratic frameworks in anti-imperialist movements in Latin America.
Harshana is a member of Health Workers for a Free Palestine and a doctor. They, alongside many committed members of HW4FP, have been engaged in organising health workers and allies, on a local and national scale, against Palantir's presence in the NHS. From starting out as a series of protests and campaigns to becoming a sustainable, worker-led organisation, HW4FP has much to share about the work required to transition from mobilising to organising.
Hannah Gibson is from Belfast. She is a community organiser, writer and trade unionist. Hannah is the current co-chair of the Belfast branch of CATU.
