The last decade has seen an exciting surge in tenants unions internationally, experimenting with actions from individual casework and block organising to rent strikes and nationwide campaigns. Yet they remain relatively small and their future uncertain.

In this roundtable session, speakers from all our tenant union delegations will reflect reflect on lessons so far and plan for the future, including considering our role in the context of rising fascism and climate collapse.

Eilidh is a writer and tenant organiser in Scotland, where Living Rent - Scotlands national tenants union have just won rent controls.

GMTU is a tenants and community union operating across three boroughs of Greater Manchester. It was founded in 2018 and is a supporting organisation for TWT 2025.

CATU Ireland is a tenants and community union operating across the 32 counties of Ireland.

LRU is a supporting organisation for TWT, and a renters union for London. It was founded in 2017.

Sindicat de Llogateres is the Barcelona Tenants Union.

Sindicato de Inquilinas e Inquilinos de Madrid is the Madrid Tenants Union.

STU is a tenants union based in Sheffield, founded in 2024.

York South-Weston Tenant Union is a tenants union in Toronto, Canada.

The LA Tenants Union is a tenant-led movement fighting for safe, affordable housing, rent control, and against evictions, funded by its members.

ACTA is an organization of Chicago tenant unions and tenants that builds unions to defend against landlord exploitation, primarily on the West Side.
