This interactive lecture will explore how today's UK foreign policy grew out of the structures and ideologies of the British empire. We'll examine the racism of the British ruling class, and how it has both justified and shaped imperial power relations. And we'll discuss the applicability of the concept of "imperialism" to British foreign policy today.
Dr David Wearing is a Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Sussex. He is an expert on UK foreign relations in the Middle East and the author of 'AngloArabia: Why Gulf Wealth Matters To Britain'.
